Family Matters April 2022

Hello, and welcome to the first Family Matters magazine of 2022.

I had a different introduction planned for this issue, but recent events in Ukraine have driven us to respond urgently to help children and families. We have local partners working on the ground in the region, and our emergency appeal will send funds for vital help for those in dire need. At the time of going to press, our generous supporters have raised over £15,000 in just a few days. This will make a huge difference, and we are deeply grateful for every contribution. You can learn more about this appeal below.

Elsewhere, we’ve had a busy start to the year, with many valuable projects underway. From our domestic violence prevention work to our programme of research to improve support for children escaping conflict and disaster; our teams are delivering locally-grown solutions to global challenges. And not only that, with our new member, we’re now doing so in 36 countries around the world.

In this issue, you can also read about my colleague Blessing’s work in Zimbabwe to better understand the underreported issue of sexual abuse affecting boys. This is a continuation of our long-standing commitment to work in this area. Our sexual violence prevention work has also resulted in our Blue Umbrella Day campaign, taking place for the second time this year. Visit blueumbrelladay.org to learn more.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Together, we are stronger.

Warmest wishes,

Rekha Nathoo
Chair of the Board
