Working with Family

Working with Family for Every Child means being part of a global team working to create a world where every child can grow up in a safe, permanent and caring family.

Our global recruitment and selection practices mean that we work with the best people from around the world, employing staff and engaging consultants, contractors and service providers in several different countries, always seeking to comply with local legislation and tax regulations.

All staff and consultants must have the right to work in the country they are based in. Family for Every Child does not sponsor work permits or contribute to costs.

We expect all individuals who work with and for Family to provide references and adhere to our Code of Conduct and relevant policies, particularly in relation to Safeguarding.

Diversity statement:

We are proud to work with people from all over the world to advance our mission. We actively encourage applications from talented and committed professionals of different cultural backgrounds, to reflect the international diversity of our members, as we know this will make our work more effective. We are committed to equality of opportunity in the recruitment, retention and development of our team.

Everyone who works for or on behalf of Family for Every Child is expected to work collectively and individually to promote a constructive and sensitive approach to others from a variety of backgrounds where the work of others is valued and respected.

Safeguarding statement:

Family for Every Child has a zero-tolerance approach to any harm, exploitation or abuse of anyone including our staff, consultants and stakeholders. Safeguarding forms an intrinsic part of everything that we do. The appointment process for any roles to work with or on behalf of Family will include the receipt of satisfactory references and relevant roles will require a criminal record check. Compliance with all our Safeguarding Policies and Procedures is mandatory.

Information about Jobs

Why work for Family for Every Child?

You will be part of a global team working on a crucial mission: to strengthen a global network of national civil society organisations that mobilises knowledge, skills and resources so that every child can grow up in a permanent, safe and caring family, and to support temporary, quality alternative care where needed.

We pride ourselves on our flexible and family-friendly ways of working, and offer a competitive package. We believe that the contractual benefits that we offer exceed statutory benefits in most countries, but where local legislation is more favourable to employees, that will apply.

We know how important it is for people to be able to work flexibly so that they can develop personally and meet their family commitments while having a satisfying job. This means that we strive to enable people to work from wherever they are based, and to be flexible about agreeing working hours. We support our staff with the resources to be able to work from home, and with the skills training that they need to develop in their role.

Global employment:

We have registered addresses in the UK, US and New Zealand, but we have no physical office anywhere.  All staff work remotely from their homes. We employ staff in different countries, including the UK and New Zealand, and several countries in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Roles are not country-specific, but if we require the post-holder to work from a specific country, this will be mentioned in the advert and on the job description. We do not send or request staff to work in specific countries; we employ people to work where they live, usually from their home.

All staff must have the right to work in the country where they are based. We establish the most appropriate method of employment during recruitment. Employment status and rights will be compliant with the legislation of the country of employment.

Benefits:

We offer a flexible working environment with competitive benefits to support your work and personal life:

  • Flexible and family-friendly employment policies which support your work life balance
  • 36 days annual leave (including bank and public holidays, and including up to six days between Christmas and New Year). This is pro-rated for part time staff.
  • Support to establish a home working environment including provision of IT equipment and contribution to the costs of internet access and using a co-working space.
  • Time off in lieu for additional hours worked beyond a full time week (of 35 hours)
  • Matched pension contribution upto 7.5% (or cash allowance for Non-UK staff upto 7%)
  • Life assurance (up to 3 times salary)
  • A generous training budget and study leave days to help you develop to your full potential
  • Enhanced sick pay and maternity pay

Information about Consultancies

We often have opportunities for people to work with us on a consultancy basis.

What is a consultancy?

A consultancy is a time-bound project, usually short term and not full time. Family for Every Child will consider the deliverables and responsibilities of the role to determine whether the opportunity is a consultancy or a job.

Who can work as a consultant?

In many countries, consultants have to register as self-employed to be able to work as a consultant.  Family for Every Child may engage individuals as consultants (sole traders) or contract companies to provide services.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements). Their conditions of service will be governed by their agreement. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
